I’ve been asked if I plan to offer classes in reading Tarot or expanding into other aspects of running a ‘Mystical Arts Business‘.
As for ‘teaching a Tarot class’ – No.
There are many ways in which the ‘democratization’ brought about by the Internet has been a good thing. Watching a short video on how to replace an O-ring in a faucet, finding a store’s business hours, connecting with people who share some specific interest- priceless. There are also very many ways in which it has reinforced the fundamentalist attacks on ‘elites’ and the scientific method while spreading conspiracy theories.
Am I saying that anyone can read cards? Yes. To some degree. Anyone can paint, or sing, fix a leaky faucet or learn what childhood patterns continue to influence us. Most of us can’t do everything at an expert level.
Special knowledge or skills still matter in some areas of life. I don’t want someone who’s just watched youTube videos perform my next surgery. When it comes to spiritual matters (or practicing as a Doctor, Lawyer, or Air Traffic Controller) watching a video, reading a book, taking a 6 Week Course, are just not replacements for doing the real work.
I’ve owned and used Tarot (and other ‘oracle decks’) for 40 years. I’ve also studied astrology and keep a small number of crystals around my work space. At their best, so-called ‘divination tools’ help us see what lies beneath the surface and may help us understand patterns in our thoughts and behaviours.

Now that I’ve undergone cataract surgeries, I’ve resumed my long-stalled study of Astrology. But reaching a point of comfort to offering chart analysis is unlikely to be soon.
I am far too much a novice at runes, numerology, casting spells, or other practices to offer them as separate services for the foreseeable future.
