The following picture was taken a few minutes ago. We live just west of downtown Columbus (OH) – and most of the birds we see are cardinals, or smaller.
Shot through a double-pane window at full (digital) zoom, there was no time to be fancy. I didn’t see the strike, and when he flew away a moment later I could not be sure what species of bloody corpse he was carrying. From the number of small feathers on the snow, I suspect he caught a sparrow or similar-sized bird.
