About Me

This blog is the product of Brian Gryphon. Although some blogs are designed to host a variety of conversations and debates, this is more of a journal; it presents some of his photographic work, his rambling on various issues (generally from a progressive’s point of view) as well as reviewing the work of other artists/ designers using web-based POD (“print on demand”) galleries and shops.

Brian was born in Toronto some 56 years ago- the third of four children. He is at least the third generation of a cross-border family. His Mother was born in the USA (her Mother was from Canada and her father from the US) but moved to Canada to marry her first husband. Dad was born in Canada; his father was from Ireland while his Mom was born in Canada but raised by a relative in upstate New York. Mom’s older brother was born in Canada but moved to the USA to join the USAF during WW II – and raised two families (at different times) in the US. Brian’s brother (and family) now lives and works in the USA while their two sisters (and families) continue to live in south-western Ontario.

In addition to working various full-time jobs since leaving school, Brian has been producing photographic images for over 35 years. His first assignment was for his high school yearbook. He currently offers his photography on apparel & gift items, and as frame-able prints. Brian operates about a dozen web-sites; his on-line history goes back to CompuServe, Freenets and 2400 baud modems. In fact, his father introduced him to ‘puters by letting Brian write code (in ‘basic‘) for the IBM-5150.

Brian was baptized in the United Church of Canada while young and again in The Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto as an adult. He has studied a wide variety of spiritual traditions; nature-based ‘pagan’ as well as ‘major world religions’. He now identifies as a “nontheist spiritual humanist”. He is ordained in the Universal Life Church, licensed to perform weddings in Ohio and available to bless queer unions or other events of personal significance.

Collected Blog Posts

Want to save some of my blog posts to read off-line? I’ve assembled two Kindle-compatible eBook collections of blog posts. Don’t own a Kindle device? There’s an app for that. Each collection is available at the incredible price of US$0.99 – mere pennies a page:
The eBook Queer Blog Posts contains most blog entries posted in the LGBTITQQ2S category from 2009 through January of 2015. Some were written to submit to one or another college class, others were written in response to happenings in my own life, and some comment on the world around me. Excluded posts generally have a video or large image with limited text. While these posts contain specifically gay content, everything I feel or experience is inevitably processed through the filter of my being a queer man of a certain age.

The eBook Queer (Political) Blog Posts contains most blog entries posted in the Politics Plus category from 2009 through 2013. I am not formally trained in Politics but have been a keen observer of political creatures (and their creations) for much of my 50 plus years on Earth. All opinions expressed herein are my own unless credited to another source and accurately reflect my belief and understanding at the time they were first published; some of them might have changed if only slightly since then.
